Camp 101: Everything You Need For Planning Your Next Camping Trip

Many people have a negative view of camping. However, it’s not necessary to have this type of experience. If you plan well, it is possible to have fun, eat well and keep bugs away. Read on to find out more.

When packing for your camping trip, make sure to pack either a pair of flip flops or water shoes. These will come in handy in and around the campground. For instance, if you are staying in a campground that has bathroom facilities and you plan on taking a shower, you need to wear shoes in the shower to protect your feet from foot fungus.

Do not assume you can collect firewood from the area. As an added precaution, bring along wood from around your yard or logs from a home store, and keep them where they will stay dry.

When you are planning a camping adventure, make sure you pack the appropriate clothing for your trip. Check the weather forecast and bring the clothing that will be needed on your trip. If it is going to be cold, make sure you have the appropriate coats, gloves, and shoes. Remember to also pack a rain poncho no matter what the weather forecast predicts.

Pack and carry a survival kit on your person for the entire trip. Survival kits should contain waterproof matches, a survival knife, a first aid kit, a flare gun and water purifying tablets. If you were to get lost or were put in an emergency situation, the survival kit will be of great help. Remember to carry it with you and do not leave it in your camp.

At night, create “bear bags.” Tie a rope around the bags with your food and your trash. Then, find a tree and toss bags over a branch, raising until they are at least seven or eight feet off the ground. Tie the rope around the tree so it is secure. This way, bears and other animals will not be able to get into your food and trash during the night.

Bring supplies for ‘Smores. ‘Smores are an integral part of any camping trip. Simply pack graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows. Toast the marshmallows, then make it the filling to a graham cracker/chocolate sandwich. When you have a ‘Smore, you will want ‘some more’–bring enough for everyone to have at least two of them!

When you go camping, be sure to wear closed-toe shoes. Walking in wooded areas, you can come across almost anything; not to mention things can fall on your feet. You may also want to take a hike. So the next time you go out camping, make sure to wear shoes that can go everywhere you want to go.

It is important to have a flashlight when you camp, but make sure the batteries are fully charged. One way to be sure the batteries don’t accidentally drain on the journey is to put them into the flashlight backwards. That way if the switch is accidentally engaged, they stay charged. Plus, you know where the batteries are.

Food is one of the most important items to bring while camping. Depending on the amount of time you will be out, it is important to have food that will not spoil while you are out. A bout of food poisoning can end a wonderful trip very quickly. Prepare all food in the right way and follow all other precautions that the kind of food needs.

You should now be able to see that you can have lots of fun when you’re camping. The information you just read is the perfect starting point for planning a great camping trip. They will help in getting things in order so your camping trip is as positive of an experience as it can be.
